The Significance of Good Friday

by | Apr 19, 2019 | Easter

Acts 3:19, “Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord.”

On the Friday morning  before Easter, many years ago, Jesus offered Himself on a Roman cross as a sacrifice for my sin and yours.

Don’t allow yourself to go through the motions of the day without remembering the great significance of Good Friday:

For God so loved the world, that He created you and me.   We were created with a capacity to know our Creator personally.  That we might enjoy Him and that He might enjoy us!

Tragically sin came into our lives.  Sin separates us from God.

But God who loves us, didn’t give up on us.  Instead He initiated an incredible plan of redemption.  He sent Jesus, His own Son, born of a virgin, to live among us and ultimately give himself as a sacrifice for our sin.

When you and I personally believe Jesus died for us…  And we claim His sacrifice and ask Him to cover our sins with His blood,

  • He forgives our sin.
  • He puts His Holy Spirit within us.
  • He gives us a personal relationship with Him.
  • He gives us eternal life and heaven when we die!

Can you remember a time when you accepted God’s invitation to be made right with Him?   “Salvation is found in no else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.”  Acts 4:12

If not, settle matters with God today, on this Good Friday, just before Easter. Bow your head and pray using the prompts below.

  • Tell God you’ve done wrong things that He calls sin.  (I think it helps to name them.  Tell Him the wrong you’ve done.)
  • Tell Him you believe that Jesus is His only Son and only way of being made right with Him.
  • Ask Him to forgive you of all these things you’ve named.
  • Thank Him for forgiveness.  Thank Him for removing the guilt that often comes along with sin.
  • Ask Him to come live your heart and life.  Ask Him for a fresh start and a relationship with Him!

God makes it so simple.

We were created in the image of God.  We can know God personally and experientially in a relationship that is unique.  It all starts with Jesus!

Thank you Jesus for the sacrifice you made on my behalf.
