It’s that time of year! Thanksgiving and Christmas are on the way. Time to decorate your home for the holidays and extend those invitations for entertaining.
I don’t know about you, but when I think about decorating my home, the first (and often the most overwhelming) thing on my list is all the cleaning I need to do.
Having had a cleaning business for years, I have learned a few basic strategies that might help you get started without feeling so overwhelmed.
- Cleaning is easiest when done one room at a time.
- Gather any scattered items that do not belong in that room, and place them in a basket to put away later. Don’t start emptying the basket, or you’ll get sidetracked.
- Dust from top to bottom. Start with ceiling fans, progress to tables and surfaces, and then finally windows and baseboards.
- Wipe down all countertops, cabinets, bathroom fixtures, and any sticky surfaces.
- Lastly, do the floors: vacuum, sweep, and mop (depending on the type of floors you have).
Once your home is cleaned, you are ready to start decorating and enjoying your guests!
