New Year; Clean Slate… Now What?
By: Melissa Bell
I don’t know about you, but for me, the start of the New Year can be STRESSFUL! While a clean slate is refreshing, it can also be a little daunting. Do I have a resolution? What are my 2020 goals for work, family, and personal growth?
Instead of scribbling goals on a piece of paper or pinning down the perfect WORD OF THE YEAR, take time to ponder these introspective questions:
1) What is life-giving for me?
Consider integrating these things that inspire you into your daily life to bring about more joy.
2) Are there any fears I am allowing to control my steps?
If so, give them to God. Dig into God’s Word and find Scriptures that relate and make note of them. Keep these Scriptures close by and recite them in your moments of fear and uncertainty. For instance, one verse I often draw upon is 2 Timothy 1:7:
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love and self-discipline.”
3) Who is God asking me to serve and disciple?
The answer can vary from year to year, season to season. For some of us, our greatest calling at this time is to serve our families and disciple our children. For others, we are called to be the Light in the workplace. But we all have someone.
Look around. Who has God placed in your life that you could pour into and share what you’ve learned in your walk with God?
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” Romans 15:13
