I am so thankful the Christmas season is just around the corner. When I told my husband that I would begin decorating this weekend, (the week before Thanksgiving), he made a grimace. He knows that this typically overwhelms me. But after the roller coaster of 2020, it’s time for some cheer!
Below are a few simple, budget-friendly ideas my friend and award winning decorator, Lisa Grimes shares in 25 Days of Christmas for Your Heart and Home. They are sure to make your home a little more cozy this season. And hopefully, super easy for you!
Idea #1: Table Top Decoration
For a simple table top decoration, wrap a few small boxes in brightly decorated colored papers with pretty bows and set them on your table. They can be lined up in a row or whimsically scattered around.
Bonus: These cute little boxes can serve double duty if you wrap a few gifts early and hide the name tags underneath.
Idea #2: Use Ornaments and Ribbon
Say “Merry Christmas” by sprucing up a corner by tying a bow with a ribbon on an ornament or two and placing them on a shelf or coffee table. Leave some ribbon dangling that can rest on the table. You can also put them on a plate or in a small bowl. You can scatter multiple ornaments with ribbons and candles and create a pretty tabletop too.
Dangle an ornament – or three or five – from the top of a mirror or the bottom of the light fixture hanging above your table. Using an odd number of ornaments – or snowflakes – looks best. Stagger them so they’re not all the same height.
Idea #3: Use Nativity Scenes
I love to collect small nativity scenes when we travel, so I try to place one in each room. Each year we place a nativity scene under our Christmas tree so it’s right in the center of our gifts as a reminder of the real reason for the season.
Idea #4: Decorate with a festive word
Pick a favorite word like “joy” and splash it all around. Write it on a chalkboard, or paint it on a piece of wood; get an ornament with your word written on it. The ornament itself can even be your word. You can display Christmas cards that have your word on them too.
Idea #5: Use Candy Canes
Candy canes are one of my favorite decorating items at Christmas time. Edible, plastic or glass candy canes can easily be added to the edge of tree branches. They can be glued around the outside of a vase or jar to make a festive flower container – with the hook facing out. Or they can simply fill a bowl or glass by themselves or along with some red ribbon.
May your home be a warm embrace to all who enter!
