Happy New Year! Opening video blog: Priorities over Resolutions – YouTube
Philippians 1:9-10,
I pray that your love will overflow more and more, and that you will keep on growing in knowledge and understanding. For I want you to understand what really matters, so that you may live pure and blameless lives until the day of Christ’s return.
The start of a new year is an opportunity to hit the ‘refresh’ button on our lives.
Instead of making resolutions, I’ve found that taking a personal inventory of how I’m spending my time, energy, thoughts, and actions is more effective. Using the core priorities God gives women in His Word, I evaluate what habits and activities should stay and what needs to go.
The Bible is our guidebook, offering a roadmap for the priorities that allow our lives to be full and rich. When we focus on God’s priorities, our lives are simplified and less hectic. Our days run smoother. We experience a sustainable rhythm that reflects time well used.
Over the next two months through this blog and video blogs (vlogs), I will offer greater detail as to what I understand to be the practical application of these biblical priorities.
- Priority #1: Our relationship with God and our spiritual growth
- Priority #2: Our relationship with our spouse
- Priority #3: Our children
- Priority #4: Our homes
- Priority #5: Our health
- Priority #5: Our jobs
- Priority # 6: Our friends and family. (Please note, when you’re in a busy season of life, you may only have time for one or two friends. Don’t make the mistake of trying to nurture many friendships at the expense of your marriage and home life.)
- Priority # 7: Our ministries
Based upon the season of life, our priorities will fluctuate. For instance, if our parents are older and our children are grown, parents should become a higher priority. Because of these life shifts, it’s so important to periodically take an inventory and evaluate how we are spending our time.
All too often, we can easily neglect what’s most important. It is far too easy to make children our first priority with friends a close second. All the while, our husbands find themselves farther down the list. When this situation happens, our lives become out of balance and our homes more chaotic. Our marriages suffer, and kids start ruling the roost.
Wisely choosing the priorities for our current season will help keep us focused on what’s most important and enable us to experience more abundant lives.
