An Attitude of Gratitude

by | Nov 17, 2023 | Thanksgiving

“Devote yourselves to prayer, being watchful and thankful.” Colossians 4:2

God is ever-present. He is with us all the time and His invisible hand is often made visible, yet we lack eyes to see it.

One of the ways to see the invisible is by developing an attitude of gratitude.

Thank Him for the small things as well as the large things.

Thank Him for the common everyday blessings He gives us such as our health, our freedom, and our freedom to worship Him openly. There are many countries in the world where it is against the law to be a Christian or to even own a Bible. People are persecuted for believing in the one true God.

I often find myself thanking Him for this wonderful country that I get to live in. I thank Him, that as I continue to write, I don’t worry about bombs dropping in my backyard. I thank Him for well-stocked grocery stores and plenty of food in my pantry.

My father grew up in the country of eastern North Carolina. He did not have running water or electricity until he was 10 years old. This was in the 1950s! I often thank God for placing me in this generation! I am so grateful for hot showers. I am grateful for indoor plumbing and that I don’t have to use an outhouse.

I’m also thankful for the blessing of a house – a place to lay my head at night. I’m thankful that my house is cool in the summer and warm in the winter. I’m grateful for soft pillows and for a comfy bed to sleep in. There are many who do not have these simple, yet often overlooked luxuries. When I’m tempted to complain, I choose to think about all that God has given to me.

We are such blessed people.

Think also of the people He puts in our lives to support us, to laugh with us, to challenge us. Thank Him for those people!

Take the time to thank Him for these things on a regular basis. Watch what it will do to your heart attitude!
