If you’re hosting or attending a gathering with friends over the next few days, don’t neglect to do the most important thing in your party preparations: Pray!
Prayer is what gives your party that extra special something that nothing else can do. Prayer brings the meaningful and the supernatural to our gatherings.
Simple ways to pray that make a big difference:
- Invite God to be the Host.
- Ask Him to arrange the seating.
- Ask the Holy Spirit to move in conversations, directing it in the way He wants it to go.
- Ask for the grace to make every guest feel loved and special.
In the past when I have entertained, I can tell the biggest difference in the gatherings I pray for versus the events when I forget or fail to pray. When I take the time to pray beforehand, I’ve experienced God giving me:
- Creativity in the planning that I had not considered.
- Organically arranging the seating in such a way that allowed for meaningful conversations.
- Orchestrating a time of group of sharing.
At one such family gathering, I invited the guests to come prepared with a story or fun memory. This resulted in a special sharing time. Most everyone participated. We laughed. We cried. We had so much fun walking down memory lane! We toasted. In the end, Jesus was honored, and it was a very memorable evening for everyone who attended.
All because the extra special had been added. The extras that brought Jesus into our midst and resulted in joy, love and meaningful conversation only He could have orchestrated!
