The last two weeks we have looked at messages from our ONE Woman conference speakers James and Geoff Banks; James is the father of Geoff, a former prodigal who walked away from God and the foundation provided by his parents. Their poignant story is one that includes addiction, jail, and multiple rehabs, while encouraging parents to never give up on their children.
Today, we wrap up by sharing highlights from the panel discussion where they responded to questions from conference attendees. Some of their comments may surprise you.
- Only God can change a heart. It’s a heart change you want in your child, not just a behavioral change.
- On hard days when it seems impossible, petition the Lord to “help my unbelief.”
- Persevere in prayer. ASK. SEEK. KNOCK. Do not give up praying for your children. Pray the Word.
- Prayers can outlive us.
- Be careful with ‘tough love.’ Go back to the place of love. Doing so does not mean acceptance.
- Be able to say, “I’m sorry. I was harsh.”
- Make love your aim.
- Be persistent in your love.
- Create space for honest conversations about faith, sexuality, and substances.
