I was not able to attend October’s luncheon. So at our team meeting last week, I wanted a full report!
After hearing my team go on and on and on about how awesome Nia’s message was, I just
knew I wanted YOU to hear a few excerpts too!
Even though the message was about marriage and money, I wanted you to hear a perspective from of a single, divorced woman, who God bless her, even when we have luncheons on the topic of marriage, she goes with a teachable, willing heart. She’s my assistant and friend, Melody.
Enjoy her recap!
Hebrews 13:5
Keep your lives free from the love of money and to be content with what you have, because God has said, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.”
Nia Davenport, a CPA and life coach who provides financial coaching services, was our speaker for the October luncheon. It was titled: The Cash Clash.
As a divorced woman I was unsure if I’d get anything from her talk. I don’t have anyone at home to clash with on how I spend cash! But I was wrong. Nia shared issues of the heart and the Lord revealed how each of us can struggle in some way with keeping money in perspective.
In marriage, the cash clash can cause division and disharmony. Your struggle may be how to allocate and spend the cash that comes into the home. I can remember this being an issue in my marriage when my husband wanted one thing and I wanted something else. This often caused us to argue.
Below are ways Nia encouraged us in keeping money in perspective:
- Learn how to peacefully communicate over the issue of money. (Workshop – she showed us what this looked like!)
- Do not let the issue of money become a battlefield.
- Remember: you and your husband are teammates, not opponents.
- Stop and pray when you start to get irritated.
- Do not let the enemy divide you on the issue of MONEY!
Nia reminded us of Ephesians 6:12, “For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms.”
As a single woman, God is teaching me to spend money His way; to give from His provision and to not throw any away on excess. Nia reminded me to ask myself these questions:
- Have I paid my bills this month?
- Do I really need to buy this item?
- What ministry can I financially sow into?
I am learning to look to God to provide for my needs and to be content with His provision. He has promised, “Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you.” Month after month, I find Him faithful. But I must admit, as a single woman, what a BLESSING to be reminded of this beautiful promise.
Nia reminded me to keep my life free from the love of money and to be content with what I have. Jesus always satisfies – not the stuff I think I may temporarily need.
