Psalm 33:12,
What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord.
I love that a woman is a major party candidate in the Presidential election. It’s historic and should be celebrated. As you know, it’s a first in American politics.
Another first in American politics is a Presidential Candidate under FBI investigation. If this candidate wins, we could have another first: a President-Elect facing criminal indictment.
Then we have another candidate who’s on record saying horrible things about women ten years ago. It was degrading. It made my stomach turn. (Btw: The candidate I wanted to win – would not have said that:))
So what’s a Jesus girl’s choice in such a messy election? Should she just skip voting altogether?
The noise and rhetoric are overwhelming. The ads are driving me nuts. But if we’re not careful, we’re in danger of allowing the messiness to mask the lasting consequences this election could have for those who call themselves Christians.
I believe since God has given us a brain – we need to be informed. He’s given us His Word – we should know what it says about civic responsibility.
Proverbs 28:7 AMP, “He who keeps the law [of God and man] is wise and discerning…”
Psalm 122:6-7, “Pray for the peace of Jerusalem [United States]
“May those who love you be secure.
7 May there be peace within your walls
and security within your citadels.”
Jeremiah 29:7, “Seek the peace and prosperity of the city to which I have carried you… Pray to the Lord for it, because if it prospers, you too will prosper.”
Titus 3:1, “Remind the people to be subject to rulers and authorities, to be obedient, to be ready to do whatever is good.”
Psalm 33:12, “What joy for the nation whose God is the Lord.”
As you may or may not know, religious freedom is one of the many things at stake in this election. It’s not talked about very often. In fact, you’ll have to look beyond the surface to alternative sources to know these things. But cases involving:
- basic freedom to worship;
- freedom of speech (such as a putting a Scripture on our desk in the workplace. A Pastor/Minister’s right of free speech in the pulpit. Five Pastors in the Houston area – recently had their sermons subpoenaed by the Mayor.)
- freedom to say “God bless you” in public when someone sneezes
- freedom to say “NO” when a law violates our religious beliefs
will be argued before the Supreme Court in the coming session. Biblical marriage and family values are already under assault. And Christians who want to live their faith are labeled intolerant. Let’s face it, being a Bible-living Christian is politically incorrect in our increasingly secular culture. (Ask an out of business bakery owner in Oregon.)
We as believers must take a stand by voting. We must look beyond the messiness because the prize of the Presidency is the Supreme Court. So while a President may only be in office 4-8 years, their appointees will impact our nation’s policies for many generations to come.
Do you realize we’re one Justice away from losing significant religious liberties? This is a big deal for this Jesus girl who values religious freedom.
I realize your candidate may not have made it this far. Mine didn’t. But I can’t let it keep me home. As Jesus said, “Stop judging by mere appearances and make a right judgement.” (John 7:24)
I have two choices when I vote Tuesday:
- One candidate has said they will appoint Justices who are constitutionalists who will protect and preserve religious freedoms.
- The other candidate has said they will choose Justices who are activists. (Limiting religious freedom under the guise of political correctness and tolerance. ) We currently have four Justices who demonstrate this w/their voting record.
The wrong Justice could be detrimental to a believer’s freedom. Politics is faith in action. Every Christian has a duty to vote as Christ would vote. Christians should vote according to the principles and laws embodied in Scripture and the Constitution. Not to mention, Christians are subject to the governing authorities.
As a woman, don’t you want a voice as to who you will be subject to?
And to the institutions that person will affect?
I do!
In the 2012 Presidential Election, 5 million evangelical Christians stayed home and didn’t vote. (335,000 in four swing states would have changed the results.) Reportedly, they couldn’t bring themselves to vote for a Mormon.
Friend, if you’re considering sitting home this election, I beg you, from the bottom of my heart to reconsider. Please VOTE! Far too much is at stake for 5 million of us to sit on the sidelines again.
Dietrich Bonhoeffer, a German Lutheran pastor, theologian, and anti-Nazi dissident once said,
“Not to act is to act. Not to speak is to speak.”*
Don’t stay home on Election Day. Speak with your God-given opportunity to vote.
