Giving People Grace in 2017, Stacey Fjellman

John 1:14
The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.
We have seen His glory, the glory of the one and only Son, From the Father, full of grace and truth.

As we passed through the last few weeks of 2016, I heard more than once people wanting to put the year behind them.  The general feeling was that 2016 held too much pain; too much angst and anxiety; too much death.

How does a Christ follower begin to engage the brokenness, anxiety, and lack of understanding we see all around?

In a Christmas Eve service I was reminded how Christ became one of us.  He was full of grace and truth.  Notice, He came first in grace… Then in truth.

How do we apply this today?

  • What if we first offered grace to those around us?  To everyone we meet…even in the smallest of interactions?  The people who bump us or irritate us… What if we offered them grace?
  • What if our words and actions were full of grace?   That in turn,  His truth could possibly be received as well?

Its grace given, even when not deserved, that enables people to recognize and see the truth.  It’s one small way a Christ follower is able to engage the brokenness we see in our everyday interactions.

How can we be more intentional about making 2017 a year to look back on without regret?
Perhaps it’s to seek Him so that we can indeed see His glory and reflect Him in both grace and truth.
