Yesterday I had the opportunity to enjoy lunch with a fascinating woman, Dr. Michelle Deering. Dr. Deering is a sports psychologist and author/speaker who recently released What Mothers Never Tell their Daughters. that I’m looking forward to reading.
One of the things discussed in the book that particularly resonates is the influence of others in a young person’s life. Specifically, Dr. Deering contends, “The main influential adult during most of a young person’s formative years is his/her mother.”
If you’re a mom, that’s jaw-dropping. What a high calling. What a responsibility.
In honor of Mother’s Day, I’d love to start a dialogue of the lessons your mother taught you. It could be something she taught from example, practical wisdom or memorable one-liners. I would love to hear it! Link below.
One of the biggest lessons I learned from my Mom is the habit of reading God’s Word each day. This example alone has changed my life and has forever impacted my family.
Through my tween and teen years, I can’t remember a morning I didn’t come downstairs to find her soaking in God’s Word. Coffee in hand. Bible in lap. Obedience to follow.
I watched her live the reality of Jesus in everyday life. He wasn’t just a building she visited once a week. And He wasn’t just a song she sang. Nor was He just a thought on Sunday. I watched Him become her life. At one point, I even thought she was taking “the Jesus stuff too far.”
Not only did she teach me this habit, but her example was also the foundational starting point for a women’s ministry called Knowing God Ministries. Through her example and what I’ve seen in my own life and countless others, I’m convinced ONE WOMAN plus Jesus can change her home, her marriage and her corner of the world.
Do you see the value of using your influence in the life a young person to be his or her bridge to a vibrant relationship with Jesus?
What did your Mother teach you? Or perhaps something a Titus woman has taught you? I’d love hear. Let us learn from you – click here!
Happy Mother’s Day!
To my dear Mom and two Aunts, Connie (pictured below) and Judy. And to my precious Grandmother, who is with Jesus now. She was our example of reading your Bible daily. She was also an amazing cook. She could make the best fried chicken and potato salad!
