“Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” 1 Thessalonians 5:18

‘Tis the season of thankfulness! But often the pressure and expectations of the holidays can leave us feeling more stressed than thankful. This year we are focusing on being thankful and expressing our gratitude to those around us. Here are a few ideas for adding thankfulness to your Thanksgiving.

Plant a thankfulness tree: Create a tree with construction paper and tape it to the wall in the dining room. Cut-out leaves in your favorite fall shades, grab a pen, and start writing! Each day family members write something or someone they are thankful for on a leaf and attach it to the tree. On Thanksgiving Day, take turns reading the notes. The tree is also a great conversation starter during the meal.

Write a note of thankfulness: Make a list of everyone who will be in attendance at the Thanksgiving meal. In advance, have each person draw a name (if you can’t do this in-person, you can do “virtually” through Skype or Zoom) and write a simple note of thankfulness to the individual selected. Exchange the notes at Thanksgiving. If your little ones want to join in the fun, they can draw a picture for their recipient!

Give them a piece of the pie: Actually, the whole pie. Sometimes the holidays leave people feeling isolated and alone. While these folks may not feel comfortable accepting an invitation to your holiday meal, a fresh baked pie and note of gratitude may make their holiday a little sweeter. Ask God to bring to your heart someone who may be hurting this season and schedule a time for a special delivery!
