3 Personal Choices to Maintain Peace Despite World Circumstances

“These things I have spoken to you, that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.”
John 16:33 (Emphasis mine)

Pandemic… Cancel Culture… Economic Chaos… Socialism… Globalism…

As I allow my mind to dwell on all that’s going on in the world, anxiety and fear are easily stoked within my heart.

This tendency is why we need Jesus. In Him, we can have peace. Not a circumstantial peace, but rather a peace that settles deep within our being.

Receiving this supernatural kind of peace doesn’t just happen. It is through intentional actions:

Go deeper in your relationship with God.

We must choose to bathe our minds in the Word. Immerse ourselves in it. Dig in like never before. Listen to podcasts of reliable Bible teachers. The Bible is the only Truth we can rely upon. The Holy Spirit is also called the Spirit of Truth. His job is to guide us into all Truth.

Look at the truth God led me to during a recent quiet time. These verses jumped off the page and into my heart.

“Don’t call everything a conspiracy, like they do,
and don’t live in dread of what frightens them.

Make the LORD of Heaven’s Armies holy in your life.
He is the one you should fear.
He is the one who should make you tremble.
He will keep you safe.”

Isaiah 8:11-14

Trust God like never before.

God is in control. He is on His throne. He’s got this. He’s big enough to work everything out. But this Truth does not mean things will be easy. In fact, it may get tougher – especially for believers. That’s why we have to choose to live in His peace by trusting Him and immersing ourselves in the Word.

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.” John 14:27

Feed your faith, not your fears.

We cannot allow the world’s narrative to dominate our thought patterns. What we allow our minds to dwell upon is a choice.

Therefore, we must take authority over negative thoughts and emotions. A phrase as simple as, “I am just not going there,” will help us immensely.

Let’s pray –

Lord, there is a great deception over the world – even the church is affected. May You cause our eyes to see and our hearts to understand what truth is and what it is not. May Your good Spirit lead us into all truth – that we would hunger to know what is true and what is not.

In the Mighty Name of Jesus, Amen.
