He calls His own sheep by name and leads them out…
His sheep follow Him because they know His voice.
John 10:3, 4
Have you ever been desperate for help when faced with a tough decision? Have you ever wished that God would pull up a chair and gently share the right way to go? Or to even just share His thoughts, direction, or guidance?
The Bible promises that when we seek Him with all our heart, we will find Him. (Jeremiah 29:13) It’s not just for the really smart, educated preachers and Bible teachers of the world to know God’s will. But everyday people like you and me can know the will of God for our lives as well.
The Bible says Jesus is described as the Good Shepherd. And that we, His people, are like sheep. John tells us that His sheep follow Him because they know His voice. He even knows our name! (John 10)
So when it comes to knowing God’s will for our life, we should know:
- God wants to make His will known to us. Jeremiah 3:33, “Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great and unsearchable things you do not know.”
- But we must be willing to take the time to seek His will.
- In other words, open your Bible and seek Him.
- God’s voice is personal. When He speaks, it’s in a language that’s personal to our lives.
- God’s will is always Biblical. He’ll never tell us to do something that contradicts the standards found in His Word.
- God’s will is a safe zone. There’s safety inside the will of God. I remember one of my favorite Bible teachers once sharing that though she was anxious about her son enrolling in the military, yet she was more fearful of him being out of the will of God. That if the frontline of battle was the will of God for her son – then the military was the safest place earth for him to be. (John 10:9-10)
- God speaks through runway lights: His Word; peace; practical circumstances and through Godly counsel.
You and I were created to know God and be in a personal, permanent relationship with Him. More than anything, He wants us to seek His will for the BIG things as well as the small things in life.
There’s nothing more encouraging, more comforting or empowering – than to know God’s will.
I’m teaching an entire workshop on the will of God – I’ll be expanding on those ‘runway lights.’ Don’t miss it!
