“Let us run with endurance the race God has set before us.”
Hebrews 12:1
We all have realms of influence — a group of people we can inspire and encourage. Think about the people with whom you spend the most time. Maybe it’s your husband, children, friends, coworkers – these folks are within your realm of influence.
God created us on purpose and for a purpose within these realms of influence. This realization should excite and motivate us to think about how we can make a meaningful impact in these people’s lives. It may be as simple as finding a way to turn an insignificant moment into an eternal moment, such as:
- Sending a card or text message or meeting for coffee.
- Sharing an answer to prayer.
- Offering a Bible verse that encouraged you.
- Listening when someone is struggling.
- Praying on the spot when that person has shared pain or life dilemma.
In the busyness of everyday life, I’m guilty of missing the opportunity to make a moment potentially significant. For instance, I tend to be list-driven, needing to accomplish what is on my day’s agenda instead of giving the person in front of me my undivided attention and time. If something in my day has annoyed me, I might feel tempted to dismiss someone rather than extending an attitude of kindness and patience. We never know what hangs in the balance with those in our spheres of influence during moments, which on the surface, may appear routine or insignificant.
Let’s pray for God to open our eyes to see others from His perspective – starting with the people closest to us. He can give us His love to share.
Our hearts are impacted by His presence and the Word when we spend time with him each day. That daily meeting is how we tune our ears to the things of God and the guiding voice of His Spirit.
Remember, God’s kindness leads us to repentance. (Romans 2:4)
We are then supernaturally enabled to serve as conduits of His love, joy, peace, patience, and gentleness. His light will shine in and through us, so that moments can become Holy Spirit-filled opportunities to make a meaningful, eternal difference in others’ lives.
This is running our race, living our purpose, and how lives change. Hearts are impacted with Jesus. Relationships are healed. Marriages are helped. Families are made whole and well. Let’s never dismiss these simple ways to make a big difference.
It all starts with ONE woman!
