Psalm 90:12, “Teach us to number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
When my children were young, older women would tell me, “The days are long but the years fly by.”
They couldn’t have been more correct, except now, I feel like the days and years are flying by! I often wonder where the time has gone, especially when I hit milestones.
My daughter just hit a milestone – turning 16 and getting her driver’s license.
In less than two months, my son will hit the milestone of turning 18. Next year, another milestone looms: his high school graduation.
Maybe you are in the midst of milestones as well:
- preschool graduation to elementary school;
- elementary graduation to middle school;
- middle school graduation to high school.
Or perhaps it’s a milestone such as an adult child getting married, having a grandchild, or retirement.
Regardless of the milestone, it can serve as a wonderful reminder to appreciate and live each day to the fullest. The Bible teaches us to “number our days that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
The Bible also reminds us of the brevity of life.
Psalm 39:4 NLT, “Lord, remind me how brief my time on earth will be. Remind me that my days are numbered – how fleeting life is.”
Milestones are wonderful opportunities to celebrate that life is a gift.
Let’s make time for intentional conversations with the people we love. Let’s not just go through the motions of life, but embrace each day as a gift from God. Live life with intentionality. Tell your people your love them. Forgive often. Always be thankful. Share Jesus with others. Live the Bible every day.
