If you could give your younger self some advice, what would it be?
In anticipation of Friday’s Sept. 13th luncheon and the Mother/Daughter retreat , we’ve started a blog series entitled “Dear Younger Me…” Click here to see past posts!
Today, we asked Friday’s Luncheon speaker, Dr. Michelle Deering to weigh in!
Dr. Deering is a licensed psychologist. She’s a mother-daughter relationship consultant as well as a professional speaker and author! She’s written a book called, What Mothers Never Tell their Daughters; 5 Keys to Building Trust, Restoring Connection and Strengthening Relationships.
Dr. Deering is an expert in trauma and life transitions. She has helped a multitude of women and young ladies see themselves more clearly and equipped them to improve their interactions with each other. She was raised by a single mother in Brooklyn, NY and has twin daughters of her own.
Enjoy Dr. Deering’s advice!
The three pieces of advice I’d give my younger self:
- Invest early, wisely, & regularly. This is not just a piece of advice for financial gain, but for personal development. Make sure to prioritize where, with whom, and in whom you invest your time and energies…starting with yourself. You have a big and giving heart, so make sure you give time to take care of you. (Philippians 2:4)
- You are valuable and you matter. The world needs someone like you, with your experiences, perspectives, and voice. You can speak up in your own way. (Ephesians 2:10)
- Don’t worry; God’s got you. Though you did not grow up with an earthly father, your heavenly Father loves you and He will provide, protect, and prosper you always. (Psalm 68:5a; John 3:16; Romans 8:28)
