Do you ever wrestle with insecurity?
Maybe it shows up as a fear of failure, a sense of inadequacy, or a nagging whisper of “you’re worthless, you’re not enough.” I have struggled for years with various insecurities, yet over the past 18 months, the Lord has been retraining my heart. Whenever self-defeating thoughts or doubts enter my mind, I’m learning now to immediately replace them with what God says about me.
As I anchor my identity in who Christ says I am, battles and strongholds that have plagued me for years are now starting to lose their grips.
You can experience this same freedom if Jesus is your King.
Dr. Neil Anderson says it this way: “One of the greatest ways to grow into maturity in Christ is to continually remind yourself of who you are to Him.” Dr. Anderson recommends declaring God’s truths about who we are daily for a couple weeks, understanding that repetition turns truth recall into reflex.
What are some of these truths? The following list is just a beginning. There are many others in His Word about who God says we are. As you read each one aloud below, I would encourage you to include your name.
- I am God’s child.
- I am not a mistake.
- I have been bought with a price – I belong to God.
- I can find grace and mercy whenever I need them.
- I am chosen, holy, and dearly loved.
- I am free from condemnation and guilt.
- God is working all things for my good.
- I’ve been given a spirit of power, love, and a sound mind.
- God has a hopeful future planned for me.
Keep your list of Truths somewhere that is readily accessible and often seen. Here is my list that I printed on a postcard.
When oppressive thoughts push in, stand firm on what God has already spoken about you and talk back to the lies. I’ll literally find myself saying out loud: “Hold on, Tara. Don’t you remember who you are? These emotions aren’t the truth. This is the truth…” and I will recite the Truths on my postcard.
Remember, keep Truth louder than the lies, and let’s grow into the freedom that’s already ours.
