10 Reasons to Spend Time Alone with God

“But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.”
Isaiah 40:31

Spending personal time with God is unlike anything else this world can give you. Nothing compares to its riches. Here are ten reasons to make this kind of one-on-one time a priority.

  1. You get to know God – the Creator of the universe –  personally. Let that thought settle over you. Through a relationship with Jesus, His Son, you can have your sins forgiven, a future secured in Heaven, and a purpose and calling in this life. But you also get to experience His love and Spirit living in and through you in this lifetime.
  2. You can have a vibrant relationship with Him. When you spend time with God on a regular basis, you can know the same God that the greats of the Bible, such as Mary, Martha, John and Peter, knew. He is the eternal God. He is the God of every generation.
  3. Your soul is nourished. Time with God allows you to connect with Him in the deepest areas of your heart. He’ll give you wisdom, encouragement, and direction.
  4. You are strengthened and fortified when life is hard. God gives you His strength in your weakest and most challenging seasons. I can’t explain it. It’s supernatural.
  5. Your heart, mind, and motives are purified. He reveals areas of sin that when confessed, He washes clean.
  6. You are not deceived by false teaching or false ideology.
  7. You receive fresh courage to do what you may otherwise never do.
  8. You become a better wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, friend, and citizen.
  9. You receive hope when you feel hopeless.
  10. You receive perspective from God’s point of view about what is happening in your life and the world.

This list could go on and on. Do you get the picture? None of these things can fully happen by going to church once a week or attending group Bible study alone (which by the way, please do those things; they’re awesome!). The point is that there is no substitute for one-on-one time with God. Only time alone with Him each day offers these benefits.

Remember, the world has nothing to offer that’s better than Jesus. Knowing Jesus makes you whole and allows you to begin living as God intended.

“...God sent the angel Gabriel…to a virgin pledged to be married…The virgin’s name was Mary.” Luke 1:26-27 I must confess, it’s very hard for me to cultivate quiet blocks of time into my day, especially around Christmas. I usually get up for my quiet time ─ but often...
