Ecclesiastes 3:1,
“For everything, there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven.”

The uncertainty of our current times has wreaked havoc on many of us. In the blink of an eye, we found our lives turned upside down as businesses have been forced to push pause, schools have closed their doors, and we have been asked to limit social interactions. We wake up every morning wondering, “Is this really happening?”
There are very few things we can control, aside from our own reactions and interactions with all that is happening. That’s why it is important that we set the tone of our homes and do our best to keep the peace. Here are a few practical ideas to consider.
- Wake up early, brew yourself a cup of coffee or tea, and settle in with God’s Word. Fill your heart and mind with God’s promises to ease anxiety and keep you focused on what is true.
- Limit your interactions with news, scheduling times to check-in with what is happening and stick to it. The constant bombardment of media can be overwhelming.
- When tensions run high, play calming music and light candles to encourage an environment of relaxation and coziness.
- Try something new! Whether a new recipe or hobby, now is the time to try something you find intriguing.
- Be aware that our children are hanging on to every word and watching our reactions in an effort to make sense of everything. If something serious needs to be discussed, whether in-person or via phone, move into another room. Watch news briefings without the little ones in tow. These intentional actions will help relieve some children’s insecurities.
- Extend grace to our leaders, families, friends, and community as this pandemic continues to unfold. If ever there was a time for grace, it is now.
We are all facing this anomaly together, and each of us will respond to its weight differently. But remember, none of this comes as a surprise to God.
“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples if you love one another.” John 13:35
