“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.” John 15:8
Allow this truth to soak deeply into your spirit: the God of the Universe has ordained that your life bear fruit. And not just a little bit of fruit but much fruit. In other words, God’s desire is that we not simply survive but thrive.
Bearing much fruit is not just reserved for teachers of the Word or our heroes. It’s attainable for everyone and is why He created us. Bearing fruit is our purpose for being on planet earth.
Yet, the enemy tries to convince believers that a life of significance is reserved for only a select few. Our prior failures and mistakes disqualify most of us from living out God’s purpose. But this simply isn’t true.
God looks for the person who is available to Him – not the person who might “appear” to have it all together.
He did not create mindless robots but rather He gave us the gift of free will to make choices for ourselves. God will never interfere with this free will; it’s up to us if we choose to live fruit-bearing, eternally purposeful lives.
Just as no two fingerprints are alike, lives that bear fruit will look different.
However, such a life will always require living with intentionality, using our unique, God-given gifts and talents to make a difference in others’ lives. We are called to follow God’s direction for our lives as best we can. It’s while we are living this out that we gain clarity as to our calling within each season.
Though our lives will look different, God’s primary concern is for His glory. God is most glorified when:
- People come to know Him through saving faith that leads to a personal and permanent love relationship.
- Lives and relationships are healed and restored.
- Peoples’ lives bear witness to His presence in their marriages, homes, communities, schools, places of business, friendships, and churches.
This, my friend, is evidence of a fruitful life.

Made for More
Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles. And let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us…
