” In order that Satan might not outwit us. For we are not unaware of his schemes.” 2 Corinthians 2:11
In last week’s blog, I shared that we all have an adversary intent on devouring not only our lives but also those of our loved ones. Yet, his tactics are subtle, often taking on the guise of an angel of light, skillfully offering up temptations that appear alluring and fulfilling.
This week, we’ll continue pulling back the curtain on his strategies, so we are better equipped to recognize them.
Strategy #6: Bombarding You with Fear
The enemy will amplify your fears, worries, and anxieties until they are the loudest voices in your head, causing you to deem the adventure of following God too risky. (Joshua 14:8)
Your Remedy: Put on your armor daily (Ephesians 6). Pray Scripture aloud. Keep your heart and conscience clear. Submit to God. The devil will flee.
Strategy #7: Destroying Your Purity
The enemy will tempt you toward certain sins. He’ll try to convince you that you can tolerate them without risking consequence. However, he knows continuing in sin only serves to wedge distance between you and God. (Isaiah 59:1-2)
Your Remedy: Take every thought captive, making them obedient to the truth of Scripture. Burn any bridges of temptation. Press in to your time with God. Tell a friend your struggle so that she may hold you accountable.
Strategy #8: Robbing You of Rest and Contentment
The enemy hopes to overload your life, pressuring you to constantly push beyond your limits and never say no to others. (Deut. 5:15)
Your Remedy: Know the truth. Jesus says His yoke is easy and burden is light (Matthew 11:28-30). He doesn’t want us to be a slave to work. There must be balance. Seek daily refreshment from sitting with Him. He wants us to take time for rest. That’s why He gave us the Sabbath.
Strategy #9: Tormenting Your Heart
The enemy will use every opportunity to keep old wounds fresh in mind. He knows that when he does, we drag the anger, hurt, bitterness, and unforgiveness from these hurts into our futures. (Hebrews 12:15)
Your Remedy: Choose not to be offended. It’s poisonous and ruins relationships. Sow love and forgiveness so that you may reap love and forgiveness. Realize that if you want your sins forgiven by God, you must forgive others. Pray for your enemies. Bless them. Do good to those who hate you. (Matthew 5:44)
While not easy, it’s an imperative.
Strategy #10: Harming Your Relationships
The enemy creates disruption and disunity within your circle of friends and within the shared community of the body of Christ. (1 Timothy 2:8)
Your Remedy: Ensure your heart is right before God. Then, if needed, confront lovingly. Pray for the unity of the Spirit and the bond of peace. (See Ephesians 4)
