There’s a popular saying in Christian circles that ‘God will not give you more than you can handle.’ But is this true?
Consider this thought: If God never gave us more than we could handle, would we ever need or seek Him?
In reality, God often does give us more than we can handle so that we will turn to Him, know Him personally, and rely on His sufficiency and goodness. This helps us grow in His love and experience Him in ways we otherwise wouldn’t.
The Bible is full of examples of men and women who were given more than they could handle. They faced difficulties, hardships, and impossible circumstances:
- Moses and the Israelites at the Red Sea, with the enemy closing in.
- Gideon, from the weakest clan, declaring himself the least in his family when called to be God’s chosen instrument in rescuing His people from Midian.
- Esther risking her life to save God’s people from annihilation.
- David confronting Goliath and fleeing from Saul’s pursuit.
- Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego maintaining their faith in a hostile environment.
- Mary and Joseph, fleeing to Egypt to escape a brutal dictator.
The list goes on and on.
So, yes, God will give us more than we can handle. But take heart, When He does, it’s a growth opportunity to choose to seek Him more intently and sincerely than ever before. Just as these great figures from Scripture experienced Him, so will we!
Yet I am always with you;
you hold me by my right hand.
You guide me with your counsel,
and afterward you will take me into glory.
Whom have I in heaven but you?
And earth has nothing I desire besides you.
My flesh and my heart may fail,
but God is the strength of my heart
and my portion forever.
Psalm 73:23-26
Together we can make a lasting impact on the next generation!
Do not conform to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.
