“…give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. 1 Thessalonians 5:18
I had a personal situation recently that was causing me a lot of heartache and frustration. It was stealing my peace, so I asked the women in my Bible study for prayer.
A wise friend from my group later emailed me and shared this nugget of truth. Her wise words brought a much-needed perspective to my situation.
“At least bombs aren’t dropping, and tanks aren’t rolling down the road. There’s food in the refrigerator. Nothing hurts bad enough to keep you awake. Nobody called saying someone had died. And you still have friends that love you. ‘Thank you, Lord, for holding me fast.’
These days, that’s my definition of a good day. And often how my praise and thank you times start.
So, when you have to ride over rough ground just sit light in the saddle, don’t go too fast, steady your horse and don’t worry over details. Just get over the rough part. It’ll be better tomorrow and for sure next week and in a month, you’ll forget this.”
Like me, when you’re tempted to grumble and complain or you’re not feeling especially thankful, recall the sage words of my friend.
Be calm and press on. Reflect on what you do have and give thanks.
This shift in focus helped usher immediate peace into my situation and maybe it could your’ s as well!
