Psalm 118:28,
“You are my God, and I will give you thanks; You are my God, and I will exalt You.”
Many years ago, I started a tradition on Thanksgiving Day of waking up early to make a list of all the people and things for which I was thankful. Then in earnest sincerity, I would present my list to the Lord in most humble gratitude, thanking Him for each.
I’m already looking forward to this year’s Thanksgiving morning.
Giving thanks is so important because like praise and worship, thanksgiving is something God
responds to. Praise, worship, and thanksgiving increase our intimacy with God. They bring an awareness of His Presence in the midst of our days unlike anything else.
I don’t know about you, but I need awareness of His Presence. Our world is unstable and fragile. Between COVID on the rise, the political unrest, and my fickle emotions, it is only by being intentional that I can keep my mind on Him.
“Set your hearts on things above, where Christ is seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.” Colossians 3:1-2
Despite how circumstances may feel, our God is ruling and REIGNING. He is in charge of all the affairs of mankind. He is sovereign. He is holy and just. We can trust Him.
I encourage you to take time over the next few days to write down and ponder the many blessings He has given to you and your family. Even if it has been a hard year, counting our blessings has a supernatural way of redirecting our perspectives and the attitudes of our hearts.
