Colossians 3:17
“And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
What goes on in your daily life?
- Are you a stay home wife and mom with noses to wipe and diapers to change?
- Are you “taxi-mom” as you chauffeur your children all over town to school and various activities?
- Do you juggle a full-time job and caring for your family?
- Do you have an empty nest and struggle to find purpose in your days?
- Are you the caregiver for an elderly or disabled spouse or family member?
As women, no matter in what season of life we find ourselves, we can be overwhelmed by the mundane tasks or the commitments that fill our days. Even without adding in difficult or unexpected situations that seem to routinely hit us, we can labor through our days in slow motion.
How do we survive mundane or sometimes overwhelming days if we can’t change our circumstances?
By changing our attitudes!
The apostle Paul tells us, “Whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
As I read this verse, I was convicted that no matter what was on my to-do list, I was to give it my very best effort and thank God that I was able and available to do it. Is it easy? Not always. Some days it seems almost impossible!
But as I commit to finding ways to thank Him in my circumstances, it has become easier. It seems that now I find more and more for which to be grateful.
My challenge for you: Find 3 things for which you are grateful and thank God for them.
For example:
- Noses to wipe & diapers to change: “God, thank You for the gift of this life You have entrusted to my care.”
- Taxi service for kids: “Lord, I thank You for giving me the opportunity to spend these sweet unguarded times with my children and for the conversations we have as a result.”
- Juggling family and work: “God, thank You for the provision You have given for my family from this job.”
- Emptynesters: “Lord, thank You for allowing them to be independent adults and for giving me new opportunities to serve You and bring glory to Your Name.”
- Caring for loved ones: “God, thank You for time to show them how much I care and for the sweet conversations and memories we can share.”
- In all situations: “Thank You, Lord, for giving me strength to serve where You have placed me. And thank You for the privilege of sharing life with others that I may reflect Your love into their lives.”
There are numerous things every day for which you could be thankful. The key is to train your heart to look for these things. From the beautiful colors God reveals in His creation – to the people He brings into our lives. His mercy and grace are daily on full display. Look for these things and give thanks in whatever you do!
