Choosing to Trust God in the Chaos of 2020

Jeremiah 33:3,
“Call to Me and I will answer you and tell you great
and unsearchable things you do not know.”

My heart has been heavy with grief given all that’s happened thus far in 2020.

Grief for the millions affected by Covid-19. Grief for the 41 million out of work and the millions of small businesses struggling to survive. Grief for the victims of racism and injustice. Grief for the out of control lawlessness on our streets and the associated indifference of elected officials.

What in the world is going on? It would be easy to live in fear or depression and possibly paranoia.

Yet, as I sit with Jesus each day, He offers perspective and reminds me that:

  • He’s fully in control and not caught off guard by what’s happening in 2020.
  • He’s all-powerful and all-knowing; He is patient and compassionate.
  • He’s the God who desires justice.
  • His foolishness is wiser than our wisdom.
  • His ways are higher than our ways; His thoughts are higher than our thoughts.
  • He is near to all who call on Him, to all who call on Him in truth.
  • He tells us to call on Him and promises to answer, telling us great and unsearchable things we do not know.

God knows and cares about every heartache and hardship. Suffering warns people that death is coming and of our need to get right with Him. Sin separates us from God. But it isn’t His desire for any to perish but for all to come to repentance. People are made right with God when they believe that Jesus sacrificed His life, shedding His blood on the Cross on our behalves.

If this is a new concept or if your heart is heavy and you desire peace, start by opening your Bible. Begin with the book of John. You will meet the God of the Bible.
