Psalm 119:105,
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light for my path.”
Each morning, I start my quiet time by reading a Psalm. Some mornings I read the same one from the morning before. It’s a treasure trove of promises and greater insight into the character of God.
Currently, I’m in Psalm 119. It’s a long one. In fact, it’s the loo00ngest chapter in the Bible. This morning, in just 16 verses, I found many of the reasons I arise early each day to be in God’s Word. These are just a few of the many benefits from being in His Word.
- God’s Word is relevant for today – “Your laws endure to this day…” (v91)
- God’s Word is eternal and firm despite the changing world I live in – “Your word, O Lord, is eternal; it stands firm..” (v89)
- God’s Word brings hope when I’m drowning in difficult circumstances – “If Your law had not been my delight, I would have perished in my affliction.” (v92)
- God’s Word protects me – “I will never forget your precepts, for by them You have preserved my life.” (v93)
- God’s Word makes me wise – “Your commands make me wiser than my enemies…” (v98)
- God’s Word gives me insight for decisions I must make – “I have more insight than all my teachers, for I meditate on your statutes.” (v99)
- God’s Word satisfies the deepest part of my soul – “How sweet are Your words to my taste, sweeter than honey to my mouth.”
- God’s Word gives me understanding – “I gain understanding from your precepts…(v104)
- God’s Word helps me know what pleases God and what doesn’t please God- “I gain understanding from your precepts, therefore I hate every wrong path.” (v104)
- God’s Word gives direction – it’s “a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” (v105)
Do you need wisdom for a decision you need to make? Deeper understanding in a certain circumstance? Do you need insight? Does your soul need rest?
Turn to God’s Word. It’s relevant; it’s eternal; it’ll make you wise; it’ll give you understanding and direction for whatever you may be facing today:)
